Beach Road Foochow Fish Ball

i totally forgot it's Mummy's birthday till she reminded me last night! As i had already missed 2 art classes, i can't miss a third. So took half day off work instead to spend some time with her. And since Pa said he'll bring her to eat traditional Foochow mee sua for lunch, i thought i might as well join them. You see, i'm Foochow but i hardly have a chance to be in touch with my dialect. But i'm proud to be a minority dialect.

After a long walk trying to find the eatery (in the rain!), we finally found it along Sultan Gate. It's an old coffeeshop. The 红糟鸡面线 is very nice! i didn't eat that though. But i like the soup from the sip that i tried. hee.. i ordered the 福洲炒年糕。 Foochow nian gao is not the usual brown sweet gluey stuff you see. It's rice cakes actually. i find that the 炒年糕  is too soggy. The Foochow fish ball is quite nice. Taste like those i ate when i was young. But i've had nicer 燕皮 though.

[sidenote] we actually caught a rerun episode of Tuesday Report on sunday showing this particular Beach Road Foochow fishball family! What a coincidence! :p

Closer

When i knew that Pangdemonium's next production after The Full Monty was Closer, i went out to rent the dvd. That was more than half a year ago. Even though the film boasts a gorgeous-looking stellar cast of Julia Roberts, Jude Law and Natalie Portman, i didn't quite get it. i know it's meant to be different from your usual love stories and it's meant to be provocative. But the excessive use of the f-word doesn't get to me.

It's one thing to hear them screaming vulgarities in the movie but it's another to be hearing them dishing out in the flesh at you. Ok that's not the point here. Anyway, despite my reservations about the film, i went ahead to watch Closer anyway as i'm a fan of Pangdemonium. The play is indeed thought provoking. But i still like The Full Monty better.

It's a pity Emma Yong had to pull out due to health reasons. i would love to see how she plays Anna.

It's a Great Great World!

A very simple film consisting of 4 short stories. i like the last story especially. Touching and heart warming.
