the Indulge Restaurant
First visit to this restaurant @ The Cathay basement. It's in a quiet dark corner but the food is better than expected. Ordered the lobster pasta that was on promotion. The seafood was quite fresh though i couldn't taste any white wine in the white wine sauce... Anyway, the potato salad that YZ had was quite nice. Can try if you can take the strong garlic taste.

六十大寿
Celebrated mummy's birthday at JP2's Dian Xiao Er.
The service is really nice. Esp the girl who was standing at the door. She explained the menu, let me deposit my cake at an earlier time and kept a nice big table for us at a cozy corner when we arrived. Maybe there was not much customers on a late Monday evening but i really liked her service. Made the food taste much nicer too. Pity i forgot to check out her name. (^^,)
Ok back to the food. Wanted to order the set menu as they are 15% off from Mon - Thu but it doesn't have the combi that i wanted. So ordered ala carte instead since i have JP's privilege card which entitles me to 15% off ala carte too anyway.
These are the nicer dishes. Pity about their signature duck which disappoints today.

Nice crunchy lotus roots with lots of macadamia nuts!
This fish is surprisingly good but crappy photo cos our cozy corner has quite bad lighting.
Got the Choco Exotic from Four Leaves. Had wanted to just eat half and bring the other half home. But... ended up finishing the 15x15cm cake between the 4 of us! lol. The cake is nice but otherwise too sweet. No wonder i'm growing... (-_-")
[Added on 25 Feb] Oh right! Found the Race on youtube! Yay! Caught up what i've missed on tv. :)

Serenity in Stone
[Wrote on 27 Feb]
Forgot to mention that i went to the museum cos it's open house at the Peranakan Museum! i.e. FREE entry! Well, the permanent exhibits are still the same i think. Anyway, i was there for the visiting exhibition "Serenity in Stone: The Qingzhou Discovery". The 35 sculptures displayed were estimated from the 6th century. They were discovered in 1996 in Qingzhou (hence the no-brainer name). These Buddhist sculptures were amazingly well preserved. The best part about open houses is that there are lots of guided tours. The worst is of course the crowd!
The exhibition is on till 26 Apr 09. Strictly no photography.

Orh Nee
Joined my parents on a makan day trip to Malacca & Muar. Most memorable is the orh nee at Malacca. The guide said that this is supposedly the most traditional preparation of the teochew dessert. i've always like orh nee as my paternal grandma was Teochew. But i've not ate / seen orh nee like this before. The yam paste is served with glutinous rice, lotus root and orange, to be eaten in that order too. The salty glutinous rice will neutralise the sweetness of the yam paste so much that the sweet lotus root will not taste as sweet. Lastly, finish the dessert with the orange peel. Actually there's yam paste stuffed inside the orange jacket but the citrus orange peel also works to cancel out the sweetness and freshen up the whole aftertaste. A very interesting dessert!
This crappy pic is the one and only taken on the trip

Have You Ever Wondered?
A hug is one of the most comforting actions but have you noticed you can't / don't see each other's face? 难到是一切尽在不言中?

Seasons' Reasons
Everything happens for a reason! That's why i was the lucky one standing at the door right at the windscreen on the shuttle bus this morning. i was the last to get on the bus (lucky me!) though i could have just waited a few more minutes to be the first on the next bus... But i got to see the hen and rooster playing in the middle of the road! Oh well, they were not exactly in the middle of the road per se. Dangerous! They were at the center divider island and having a jolly good time. Such is the wondrous little things that can make my day! :)

Amazing Race 14
Wuhoo!~ The race is on again! Been catching the race ever since one of my friends introduced me to the show a few seasons back. i thought it was just another reality game show like the yucky survivor. Luckily it's not and i like the race. :) This season starts with a 70-story high bungee jump! Talk about adrenaline rush! i would NEVER do that! Even if you give me a million bucks! But the best part must be watching the first ever hearing impaired person on the US race check in first at the pit stop for the first leg. And seeing Phil sign the results to the team. (^^,~) awww... Oh ya. which reminds me of the sugoi feeling when i learnt that my jap classmate won the asian race...

Pepper Lunch Express
Have not had Pepper Lunch for quite some time. The express one is much cheaper than the normal one but i didn't have a very good experience with my first express encounter years ago. This one at Junction 8 is not bad... The Chicken Chunks Pepper Rice with Cheese ($5.80) is nice. But of course with lots of the honey brown sauce! ^^

Left Brain vs Right Brain
i've always thought that i'm right brain cos i think my left profile is nicer (cos the right brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. That's why alot of left handers are right brained as the left side is more developed) Hee... so took a test i found and i'm right! More right brain than left... But then, i don't think i'm creative though... Anyway, there are no right or wrong in this. Just predominance. i think i was left brain previously.. cos i used to think my right profile looks nicer when i was younger.
Anyway, this is what the test result says about me... i thought it's quite me! :p
Left 44%
Right 55%
Auditory 60%
visual 40%
Min, you show a slight right-hemisphere dominance with a moderate preference for auditory processing, an unusual and somewhat paradoxical combination of characteristics.
You are drawn to a random and sometimes nonchalant synthesis of material. You learn as it seems important to a specific situation, and might even develop a resentment of others who attempt to direct your learning down a specific channel.
Your right-hemispheric dominance provides a structure that is only loosely organized and one which processes entire swatches of reality, overlooking details. You are emotional in your reactions and perceptual more than logical in your approach, although you can impose structure and a language base when necessary.
Your auditory preference, on the other hand, implies that you process information sequentially and unidimensionally. This combination of right-brain and auditory modes creates conflict, as you want to process data more rapidly than your natural processes allow.
Your tendency to be creative and free-flowing is accompanied by sufficient ability to organize and be logical, allowing you a reasonable degree of success in a number of different endeavors. You take in information methodically and systematically which can then be synthesized rapidly. In this manner, you manage to function consistently well, although certainly less efficiently than you desire.
You prefer the abstract and are a theoretician at heart while retaining the ability to be practical. You find the symbolism in a great deal of what you encounter and are something of a "mystic."
With regards to your lifestyle, you have the mentality which would be good as a philosopher, writer, journalist, or instructor, or possibly as a systems designer or social worker. Perhaps most important is your ability to "listen to your inner voice" as a mode of skipping over unnecessary seps to achieve your goals.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Benjamin Button was a man who was born "old" and wrinkly and becomes younger looking as he grows older. i was curious about this tale of a man who aged reversibly that had garnered 12 Oscars nominations. i wanted to see how does Brad Pitt "age". The makeup theatrics was excellent but i thought that the film was too even (not have much ups and downs) till the point of boring at parts. And despite the length of the show, most of the relationships were not well-developed. So although the show is watchable for the two leads, i was kinda let down.

Botan Japanese Restaurant
SH had been recommending this place @ Far East Square to me ever since i brought him to kuriya. Finally visited it. Ordered the Kaisen Don ($17++). Lots of raw fish and roe that you can't see the rice. Very value for money and the portions are big. i like the sesame sauce and the grated yam that comes with the Don. i don't see grated yam often elsewhere... but the tonkatsu set that SH ordered is really HUGE and is only $18++. Somehow that and those generous sets that the next table ordered look nicer than my tiny! (in comparison) don. lol. :p

Fish Soup Day
i'm not that particular with food really. i can eat the same thing twice a day... but it's so bad i really gotta write about it.
Lunch
This is one stall that i would not patronise again since there are so many other stalls selling the same food here. i seldom fail to finish my food as i always believe that one should never waste food. BUT i've committed the sin today. The soup is so bland i had to add soya sauce to the soup (which is something i never do!). The food is expensive $4 and the auntie has lots of attitude. There's usually a long queue at the fish soup stall next to it but not here. And now i know why. i had to eat a yummy fried drumstick to redeem my mood. :p (oh the drumstick is selling at an offer price $0.80 at a stall next to another row of fish soup stalls! :p)
Dinner @ Foodcourt below Raffles CF gym
Not as disastrous as lunch but the soup is also quite tasteless. :(
